Getting started
Which systems are supported?
Requires macOS 14.4 or later. Check the download page for version and compatibility information.
How do I download and update?
Get the installer from the download page. Quit the app, unzip it, and drag Better Volume into Applications to replace it. The direct edition can check for updates in Settings → General → About & Updates. If your version lacks this option, use the download page.
What is the difference between Free and Pro?
Master volume, per-app volume, and basic app management are free. Pro adds device profiles, sound presets, volume safety, volume leveling, and channel controls. Compare all features.
Sound & permissions
Why is an app missing from the panel?
Apps appear automatically while playing audio. Start playback in the app, then check the list. If it still does not appear, contact support with the app version, system version, and a description of the issue.
Can I adjust HDMI or DisplayPort display volume?
Yes. For outputs without native volume control, Better Volume adjusts volume in software and requires system audio recording permission. Compatibility depends on the device and audio output method.
Why is audio recording permission needed? Is audio saved?
The app uses system audio APIs to adjust volume in real time. Audio is processed locally in memory; recordings are not saved and audio is not uploaded. Read the privacy policy.
Why do playback controls vary between apps?
Available playback controls depend on the app and distribution version. Refer to the controls available in your installed version.
Purchases & migration
Is website Pro a subscription?
The direct edition offers a USD 9.99 lifetime license: a one-time purchase with no subscription renewal. Applicable taxes are shown before checkout. The App Store edition retains annual and lifetime options at its in-app prices. View pricing.
Do I need to buy again if I purchased in the App Store?
An eligible valid store purchase does not require a second payment. Obtain and save an activation code in a supporting store release before installing and activating the direct edition. If this option is missing, keep the App Store edition and wait for a supporting update. Annual purchases retain their valid subscription period; lifetime purchases remain lifetime. Website purchases do not automatically unlock the App Store edition. Read the migration guide.
Where do I find my activation code after payment?
Website orders are processed through Waffo. After payment is confirmed, the success page and purchase email provide the same activation code. Choose “Enter activation code” in the app to activate. If the email is missing, check spam or contact support. Test codes cannot activate the production edition.
Can I get a refund or cancel renewal?
Website lifetime licenses have no subscription renewal. Voluntary refunds are generally not offered; mandatory legal rights and payment-provider rules remain applicable. Manage annual store subscription renewals through Apple subscription management. Cancelling renewal is different from requesting a refund. Read the Terms of Service or contact support.
Devices & licensing
How many computers can use one code?
Each code permanently binds up to 3 computers. The computer used to claim a store code counts toward the limit; activating the direct edition on the same computer does not use another slot. Deactivation, slot releases, and transfers are not offered. Uninstalling or reinstalling does not reset slots.
Can I use the app offline?
Direct-edition Pro requires internet for initial activation, then supports up to 30 days offline. Successful online verification renews the offline period. Lifetime licenses still require periodic verification.
What if activation fails or I need more help?
Email [email protected] with your app version, system version, and a description of the issue. Do not send card numbers, passwords, or a complete activation code.
