Move to the direct edition
Keep the Pro entitlement from your valid App Store purchase without paying again.
Steps
- Get your code: Open the App Store edition’s membership page, choose “Get Activation Code”, and save it.
- Replace the app: Quit the app, download the direct edition, unzip it, and drag it into Applications to replace the existing app.
- Activate Pro: Open the direct edition’s membership page, choose “Enter Activation Code”, and paste your code to activate online.
Things to know
Before claiming a code
If “Get Activation Code” is missing, update to the latest version through the App Store first. Restore your purchase if it is not recognized. Free trials do not qualify. Keep your code safe and do not share it publicly.
Your settings stay
Replacing the app on the same computer and user account preserves device settings, app rules, and volume settings. No export or import is needed. The two editions cannot coexist; there is no need to delete Keychain records or system permissions.
Device slots
Each code permanently binds up to three computers. The claiming computer uses one slot; activating on that same computer does not use another. Repeated claims for the same purchase return the same code. Claiming or activating on another computer uses a new slot. This does not change the installation rules of your App Store purchase.
Uninstalling, reinstalling, or stopping use does not release a slot. Neither self-service nor manual transfers are available. Replacing a computer or motherboard that changes its machine identifier counts as a new computer.
Purchases and internet access
Lifetime purchases retain lifetime access. Annual subscriptions retain their validity as verified by Apple; they do not become lifetime purchases or create another subscription. Apple still handles renewals, cancellation, and refunds. Refunds or revoked purchases affect access.
First activation requires internet access. Offline use lasts up to 30 days and never beyond the subscription’s validity.
Already replaced the app without a code?
Quit the direct edition and reinstall the App Store edition through the App Store. Restore your purchase with the original account, claim your code, then install the direct edition. You do not need to pay again.
Updating an older direct edition
Update on the original computer and verify online with your existing code. Linked legacy records for the same computer do not count twice. If all three slots are occupied, update and verify on the original installations before claiming a store code. Support can investigate errors but cannot release or transfer slots.
